Do you ever feel sad that your kids spend summer in camp instead of having a slower, freer

Main Post: Do you ever feel sad that your kids spend summer in camp instead of having a slower, freer

Top Comment: We do a mix of both! 2 weeks of summer camp, 2 weeks hanging pit with friends going to pool/movies/ice cream. Then family vacation. As much as he enjoys unstructured free time, he loves camp and seeing his friends too so don’t feel guilty about it.

Summer camp for kid

Main Post:

Hi, I am looking for a summer camp for my cousin coming from Japan. She is 6 years old, and she can speak English a little. She will stay with us from July 25 to August 10. Its my first time searching for a camp, and I don't know which camp I should choose from. Any recommendation for summer camp?

Thank you.

Six seems awfully young for camp, especially for a kid from another country who doesn't really speak the language.

Summer camp cartoon name

Main Post:

I'm looking for a summer camp cartoon that I used to watch but never finished. It was an intriguing cartoon (kinda like gravity falls) and I would like to go back and see what happened to it. The cartoon didn't have a specific main character (at least I don't remember it doing so). Here are some of the distinct things I remember from it.

  1. The entire story revolved around a mysterious "thing" that caused the forest of the camp to be magical. For example there was an episode where a flood happened due to that "thing" having a bath.
  2. the kids had cabins in the ground. The ground was stairs like(like rice fields and how they are each different elevations) and the cabins where into those stairs like structures(basically in the ground/wall)
  3. there was a teacher who lived in a mill, there was also a romantic relationship between 2 teachers if I remember correctly.
  4. the intro of the show was about the kids trying to chase that "thing" and it's mostly in black and white. During the intro the "thing turns into many things like an apple and other stuff to try and hide from the children.
  5. there was a strict teacher that punished the kids, I think she had white hair.
  6. I think there was a kid with a skateboard.

That's all I remember. If this doesn't help narrow things down I'm sorry this is all I remember. If you know then the help would be appreciated.

Edit: for more information that may be useful.

  • when I watched the show it was dubbed into Arabic on an Arabic kids channel called MBC3. This is also the reason why I can't find it. When Arabic channels take shows, they usually change the name to something completely different.
  • I have a faint memory of googling the show's name in Arabic(I don't remember that now) and I found the show in Russian.

Edit 2: it's been found thanks to u/FlatulentZombie. The show is called floopaloo where are you? Thanks again for all the help.

Summer camps

Main Post:

What are summer camp options for middle schoolers near/around Sanford or Seminole county? I can’t find hardly any options. Daughter will be 14 this summer and staying at home during the week every day is not an option. The camp doesn’t even have to be all 5 days, but we need something.

Top Comment: Have you thought about sleep away camp? Camp Wewa (a YMCA camp) in Apopka is legit my favorite childhood memory!

What gear/toys/items take a kid's camping trip from good to AMAZING?

Main Post:

I want to know if anyone out there has come across any toys/games/activities that are just simply amazing to take car-camping (drive to site and set up).

For instance - I have a "ninja slackline" for my 5-year-old that we bring camping and it's always an absolute BLAST that other kids often come over to play on as well.

We bring bikes, good camp setup (stove, tent, etc...), and a guitar. We like to play hide n seek, climb trees, make nature art, and throw rocks in the river.

But I'm looking for more unique suggestions that just put the camping/adventure experience "over the top" for younger kids.

**Obviously spending quality time in nature is a big part of the experience as well** Just wondering what the coolest things you've ever taken camping, or seen someone else bring along, that made you say "Holy smokes, that's awesome!"

Top Comment: Green Plastic Army Men: you will never have a better place for them. Sheeps foot knife to let them whittle large sticks into medium sticks. Magnifying Glass and or pocket microscope with led light. Rope. If ur kids can't entertain themselves for hours with 50 feet of rope, idk leave 'em. Small shovels Mini fishing kit. Bow and arrows. You can get a decent recurve, or just a red fibgerglass. They make strings with foam finger protectors on them which makes it approx. 99% easier for kids to shoot. Get some blunt arrows or foam targets or Judo points and let them enjoy life. bb gun (bb, not pellet). Lots of fun at the right place. Usually plenty of surplus to requirements cans. Percolator. Teach them how to make coffee then turn em loose to cook breakfast.
